My father is a wildly smart man, a gentle person and has been a strong support all my life.

On top of that he can talk to anyone about just anything. In the #metoo era men like my father should be more valued than ever. Masculinity to him isn’t chucking back beers or starting fights, it’s about how you represent yourself. What aspects of yourself do you value and want others to see value in too?

The qualities I most value in my dad are his love for maths, his ability to know every answer to every question I have, his oddball humour and his patience.

Today is my dad’s birthday and this poem is dedicated to him.

Happy birthday dad, I love you.
